Every now and then, we all need to evolve.
After 22 years of working hard for an industrious vocational market, it’s the International HV Series’ time to shine. And that means better performance, greater productivity and lower total cost of ownership for construction and utility fleets.
“The redesigned HV delivers our best solutions for operational performance, fleet management, body integration and driver experience,” said Chad Conley, Vice President, Work Truck. “And with the backing of our service contracts, customers will see we’ve simplified the ownership experience, so they can focus on the areas of their business that matter most.”
The new HV Series, now in production, has four models to choose from — 509, 609, 515 and 615 — and a platform built for easy body integration for any vocational need. Configurations range from 4x2 to 8x6, all-wheel drive models (4x4 and 6x6), set forward or set-back steer axles, plus clean cab-to-axle configurations.
For those who face the most demanding jobs, the HV Series models 515 and 615 now feature the International S13 Integrated Powertrain. Every part of the S13 Integrated Powertrain is engineered for simplicity and durability.
Take the powertrain’s aftertreatment system, for instance. Since the S13 uses a combustion strategy that maximizes the fuel’s potential, it produces less soot which extends diesel particulate filter (DPF) service intervals and capitalizes on fuel economy through efficient idling. It’s built with a dual-stage selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system that doesn’t use an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler or a diesel oxidization catalyst eliminating the need for active regens. This means more time spent on the job and less time in the shop.
When it comes to smoothly navigating some of those tougher jobsites, the two crawler gears of the powertrain’s T14 Automated Manual Transmission allow heavy loads to smoothly and easily start to move. They also improve startability, meaning trucks can start on steeper grades. Additional performance attributes for the T14 transmission include a wide overall gear ratio for efficient cruise speeds, and a light-weight design, which translates to more payload.
The transmission’s Precision Maneuvering mode gives the driver more control of the vehicle at low speeds for specific movements — ideal for busy construction sites. Paver Assist functionality enables the truck to be shifted from neutral into a forward gear without the driver needing to depress the brake, ensuring the smooth, uninterrupted delivery of material into the asphalt paver.
Ever find yourself stuck in a literal rut on certain sites? Those days are gone thanks to the transmission’s Rock Free mode, which extracts a truck that has sunk into the ground by rocking it back and forth (without spinning the wheels) until the vehicle is free.
As a result of extensive experience working directly with customers to best meet their needs, the International HV Series provides the ideal foundation for numerous applications, including boom crane, aerial devices, dump and mixer.
International’s power take-off (PTO) options help fleets reduce time and complications upfitting their vehicles post-production. Single- and dual-transmission-mounted PTOs are available with a variety of common SAE adapters. Rear engine power take-off (REPTO) and front engine power take-off (FEPTO) options, without horsepower restrictions, are also available directly from the factory.
Installing and certifying lift axles after delivery can be complicated and time-consuming. To alleviate some of that burden, the HV Series can be ordered with up to three factory-rated lift axles per truck — ranging from 8,000 to 20,000 lb. — installed directly at the factory. Controls for the lift axle are integrated into the wing panel through International’s advanced Diamond Logic® electrical system, freeing up the space between the front seats and for other items.
Diamond Logic further streamlines chassis and body equipment integration and allows fleets to program automated tasks, including:
- Park brake alarm alerts for crane applications.
- Remote start/stop functionality with emergency pump integration for aerial lifts.
- Dump bed raised and gate open indicators, as well as hydraulic system monitoring performed through custom programming for any truck with a hoist.
- Remote body switches that can be custom programmed to control concrete chutes and water valves for mixer applications.
This all means more consistent performance, and increased equipment protection and crew safety for vocational fleets.
The cab of the HV Series is made of tough, durable, high-strength steel. The cab delivers enhanced corrosion resistance and durability for exceptional endurance for rugged applications through galvanized steel panels.
In and out of the cab, driver safety and comfort remain top of mind in all International products. That’s why the new HV Series includes a sloped hood, panoramic wide windshield, and an interior design based on a meticulous study of driver movements.
The HV Series’ Premium Gauge Cluster positions key axle loading, tire-pressure monitoring information and safety alerts within easy view to maximize visibility to information and minimize eye fatigue. Mirror placement also has been optimized so drivers turn their heads less, making it easier to keep their eyes on the road while reducing neck strain and increasing comfort.
Seats in the new HV Series can now be tailored to suit drivers of all shapes and sizes and incorporate features normally found only in luxury automobiles. Two-chamber lumbar adjustment is especially appreciated by drivers who spend long hours behind the wheel, while pneumatic side bolsters provide additional upper body support and help the driver sit more upright.
The revamped HV is fully supported through service contracts and solutions that provide greater productivity, efficiency and lower total cost of ownership for vocational fleets.
Service contracts are one part of bundled comprehensive ownership solutions that simplify the entire vehicle ownership experience. Service contracts are designed to meet individual fleet needs and deliver everything from planned maintenance and proactive service planning to service event orchestration and complete vehicle coverage.
Advanced remote diagnostics is included for five years standard on the new HV Series. Industry-leading connectivity solutions include over-the-air programming to ensure peak performance with remote software calibration and programmable parameter updates, fleet health monitoring via weekly reports that highlight vehicle fault codes that are most likely to cause a downtime event, and factory-installed telematics system that connects fleets with fleet management and compliance software providers seamlessly – without the cost of additional hardware installation.
Service communication with dealers is also included for five years standard on the new HV Series. Features include service request initiation with dealers, up-to-date repair status, complete parts catalog, remote health data, and integration with parts inventory systems highlighting dealer locations that have the parts fleets need in real time.
It’s impossible to talk about comprehensive ownership solutions without including financing. International® Financial offers flexible solutions to tailor equipment financing needs for fleets’ specific situations and business operations. Bundling services with financing solutions adds an element of convenience for fleets. And fleets should look for customized financial solutions that align with the specific needs of their business.
The vocational market demands dependable equipment and solutions to navigate tough jobsites and support hardworking fleets. So, uptime is the name of the game.
The new HV Series is not just an International workhorse with a modernized look. It raises the bar when it comes to chassis and body integration, comprehensive ownership solutions, fleet performance and productivity, and driver experience.
